Naca is a newly established Danish brand of modern accessories made by textile designer Christina Schmidt. Christina holds a MA in Textile Design from the Design School in Kolding.
One of my favorite places to be in the world is my workshop. Here I experiment with materials, color, form, textures and print. I enjoy illustrating memories, stories, ambiances and themes through my designs. And often you will find a pinch of humor in the objects.
The word "naca" is among other things a mexican slang term, which is generally used to describe a person with lack of social manners or comically bad taste.
I chose to name my brand Naca, because I love the irony of the term. It makes room for humor and quirkiness.
Taste is a fascinating phenomenon, because it constantly changes. "Bad taste" is the over-exposed and un-wanted objects from yesterday, yet the next thing to become hip tomorrow.
Aesthetic preferences are built upon individual, social and cultural matters. I find it interesting to see how one material or color combination may be aversive to one person and attractive to another. It's all in the experiences we have gained.
